Professional Journey
Joining Uppteam was like jumping onto a moving train – exciting, fast, and full of possibility. I came in when the team was just 35 people, and the marketing function was still being built. I started with email marketing and creative content: flyers, brochures, emailers, all things organic. Little did I know this role would evolve into a full-stack marketing career.
When the VP of Marketing and most creatives left, I had the chance to take the lead. I didn’t just “help with marketing,” I became the marketing. I created social media content from scratch, handled internal newsletters, wrote website copy, and strategized outreach campaigns. I reported directly to the CEO and was trusted with both creative direction and business alignment.
By 2021, I was promoted to Digital Marketing Manager & Employer Branding, and this is where things got exciting. I helped shape how the company looked to both clients and potential employees. From CSR days and internal events to launching company newsletters and employee testimonial videos — every campaign was a mix of heart and strategy.
One of my proudest achievements? Building an organic lead generation engine using LinkedIn Sales Navigator and HubSpot CRM. We started converting without ads. Later, we experimented with small-budget paid campaigns across LinkedIn and Meta — which gave me firsthand experience of ad setup, targeting, and monitoring.
As the company scaled to 200+ people, we built a full team of content writers, SEO managers, designers, and video editors. I managed this cross-functional team, coordinated with international agencies, conducted market research, tracked KPIs, led team stand-ups, and shared performance insights with leadership. I also collaborated with the tech and operations teams to ensure that our marketing messaging was aligned with real product updates and customer experiences.
And somewhere between all this, I fell in love with strategy, storytelling, and data – the perfect trio that defines good marketing.
After a few years of hard-core field sales, it became clear to me, while I was learning a lot, I wasn’t living my dream. Running between client sites and hitting monthly targets gave me resilience, but it also came with burnout. And deep inside, I always knew I wanted to build brands not just sell them.
So I made a shift.
At IIMT Studies, I found my entry point into marketing. We offered online education to working professionals across Asia and the Middle East. My role focused on generating leads through email and LinkedIn outreach -understanding career goals, matching them with courses, and closing enrollments via phone. It wasn’t just sales anymore; it was insight-driven communication. This role helped me build a foundation in digital outreach, messaging, and targeting – the stepping stones to modern marketing.
Next up, I joined South Asia FM Ltd. as an Account Manager, where I shifted gears from telecom to media sales – specifically, radio advertising. Selling ad space on the radio was a whole new ballgame. My days were a mix of walking into local businesses, cold calling, and pitching creative campaigns tied to festivals and seasonal buzz. I worked with shops and enterprises to help them craft engaging radio ads that really spoke to listeners.
One of my favorite parts? Working with RJs, producers, and scriptwriters to build those ads and sometimes even writing scripts myself or lending my voice to them! (Yes, I’ve actually voiced a few ads that went on air.) I learned the art of tailoring pitches based on time slots and pricing strategies: from basic ₹7/second spots to high-value RJ mentions during prime hours. It was sales with a creative twist and I loved every bit of it.
My career kicked off at Bharti Airtel Ltd., right out of college, as a campus hire. I worked as a Key Account Executive handling B2B sales, and it was intense, high-energy fieldwork – a true crash course in real-world selling. I was managing channel partners and responsible for driving sales of postpaid and leased line services to SMEs and large enterprise clients. Cold calling? Yep. Both on the phone and in commercial buildings – I did it all.
I took pride in converting prospects into long-term clients, and even more in converting competitor partners into Airtel’s own. In fact, I onboarded six new channel partners by directly meeting and winning over our competitors’ CSAs. My efforts helped close deals with clients like Comet Motors and Intas Pharmaceuticals. Meeting targets was tough but rewarding, and I was deeply involved in not just selling but also after-sales service and support. I reported directly to the Zonal Sales Manager and learned how sales, strategy, and relationships truly intersect in the telecom world.
